Balloon in the sky!

June 18, 2010 by mimecine

Haha! Just saw one of the hot air paper balloons float by over West Village!  I honestly didn’t think they would take off on a warm night like tonight, but I guess I am proven wrong.

The image below is not from tonight – I of course ended up too flabbergasted to snap a picture, but it’s pretty much the same view plus a beautiful pink sunset! I hate to push a product, but what the hell, you can get one here. I think I have to send one up too!

Consider Adding Your Name To…

June 15, 2010 by Alisa

HI

Please stop complaining about how bad Obama is, who is better? We still stand with the guy. What politician is a savior? What human is or was? NONE.  Let’s face it we need more than 2 political parties in the mix or we’ll forever be in this ping pong of nothingness. It’s not about any individual, it’s about all of us calling for a better political system. What the hell?

Please consider signing this:

==========

Hi,

The oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is a tragedy — one we can only hope never happens again.

But the solution is about more than just addressing this crisis. As President Obama said, “An America run solely on fossil fuels should not be the vision we have for our children and our grandchildren.”

The House has already passed comprehensive energy legislation — and the Senate is ready to take up the issue.

That’s why I added my name today to show I stand with President Obama for a clean-energy future.

Will you join me?

Thanks,

O . I . L. = I. L. L.

June 5, 2010 by Alisa

Please stop and think, reflect, read the petition below and sign if you agree. Then go turn off your a/c and sweat it out a bit, while you feel good about burning a little less energy.

We all must simply change what we are doing N > O > W……….we have tried to do good here at KIOSK but simply we must do more. We all must simply do more.

Compliments of our pals at Move On.

===============

Dear MoveOn member,

We struggled with whether or not to share this photo, taken of a bird on the beach at East Grand Terre Island, LA on Thursday. It’s hard to look at.

But we have to face where our addiction to oil has taken us—and this photo brings that home:

<img class="alignleft size-large wp-image-1889" src="http://hello cialis acheter.kioskkiosk.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2010/06/oilbird2-480×297.jpg” alt=”” width=”480″ height=”297″ />

The disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is heartbreaking—but if an image like this can do anything, it can sear into our minds the fact that we need a real plan to get America off of oil.

Forward this to ten of your friends, and sign the petition to Congress and the White House today:

breakfast here and there 2

June 1, 2010 by mimecine

The Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant at the Kaimana New Otani Hotel in Waikiki serves a breakfast I dream about all year!  Fresh pineapple, poi pancakes with coconut syrup, Portuguese sausage, and macadamia crusted french toast.. all under the magnificently twisted hau tree on the beach.. the decor is pure pink and white – how fancy! And the servers are very kind and attentive – even to beach bums like me.

The Kaimana New Otani Hotel, 2863 Kalakua Avenue, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawai’i    Breakfast served 7 am – 10:45 am.

Inspiration: Yma Sumac

by Ming

Perhaps you will recall the bird like soprano notes of Yma Sumac from the song ‘Ataypura’ on the Big Lebowski soundtrack. The Peruvian songstress’s un – earthly  voice is hard to miss as is the woman herself who, sadly, died two years ago. Killer style makes me want to go to Peru which I imagine to be as colorful and melodious.

Appreciation: H.A. Ray’s stars

May 30, 2010 by Ming

Many of you remember Curious George and his friend the man with the yellow hat. The little monkey had various adventures trying to make his way through the urban jungle. A lesser known work of the German born children’s book author H.A. Rey is the book The Stars: A New Way to See Them. Published in 1952, Rey’s illustrated story book illuminated patterns and shapes of star constellations that would make it easier for children to recognize them. The shapes he found were so memorable that they were adopted for many astronomy guides and are mostly still used today. The illustrations themselves are really quite beautiful. I am excited at the prospect of finding all the constellations on the next clear night!
