Appreciation: H.A. Ray’s stars
Written on May 30, 2010 by Ming
Many of you remember Curious George and his friend the man with the yellow hat. The little monkey had various adventures trying to make his way through the urban jungle. A lesser known work of the German born children’s book author H.A. Rey is the book The Stars: A New Way to See Them. Published in 1952, Rey’s illustrated story book illuminated patterns and shapes of star constellations that would make it easier for children to recognize them. The shapes he found were so memorable that they were adopted for many astronomy guides and are mostly still used today. The illustrations themselves are really quite beautiful. I am excited at the prospect of finding all the constellations on the next clear night!
