Pee Diddy

October 16, 2007 by mimecine

KIOSK, Club, Arena, Etc
If you are following celebrity news (or just took a cab / watched tv / read any papers) , you might have come across the piece of Mr. Diddy roughing it up with a friend at the club that is hosted by our neighboring cafe Bari. Well, of course the first mainstream reporter got it all wrong stating that the club is the night-time extension of the store. Next we hear of it, it has been picked up by many other media outlets without fact-checking (actually, Fox5 did call, although they just wanted to hear if we saw anything or Britney).

So, no, we don’t have a club that you haven’t been invited to. And no, Mr. P didn’t fight over the last ‘girl smiling head’ (even if that would have been understandable).

Kyoto temples

September 9, 2007 by mimecine

Koto-inimg_0132.jpgkinkakujiginkakujiimg_0098.jpgOut of the many temples in Kyoto these were my favorites, we visited them in the Fall, (caught the peak Fall leaf period by sheer luck) keep in mind the Spring can be a totally different experience, if anyone has other temples they like please put them in the comments here. We’d really love to hear from you. I do not put the addresses here are they are all well marked on any Kyoto map, damn reading my list now, help! I want to go!

ryoanji:
mother of zen gardens, how can you miss it? I never GOT zen gardens until I walked in here, artistically life changing experience
katsura:
imperial temple slightly outside of town, really lovely, you must get ticket from the imperial palace in the center of town in order to go there, slightly removed from hustle of other temples
ginkakuji:
lovely sand pile representing mt fuji, this is one place to go to in the Fall, the leaves were incredible…
kinkakuji:
this is where the golden temple is, much to be appreciated but we liked ginkakuji more if you can only go to one
zuiho-in & koto-in:
both are subtemples of the Daitokuji Temple
Zuiho-in has a outstanding rock and moss garden, small, lovely and intimate and Koto-in has an impressively silent entrance and an amazing viewing garden
kiyomizu:
interesting, massive construction up the hill, very different from the rest on this list, more for the construction than the nature

kyoto hotel

September 7, 2007 by mimecine

kyotostreet1.jpgNow we have friends going to Japan, it is really a travel time of year!
This is where we stayed in Kyoto and we really loved it, not so much for the room, although it was in an original wooden house, a rare thing, not so much for the shared bathroom, although it was prefectly clean, not so much for the owner, he was a true eccentric, but for the location, stait in the center of the geisha quarters of Kyoto, it was lovely…if you stay in the cold months be sure to bring warm things to sleep in as the wooden houses are drafty! And ask for a room out front so you can hear the click of the geta (wood shoes) and signing voices of the maiko when you fall asleep. This is not a fancy place but full of atmosphere.
