Today and tomorrow you can watch a range of people discussing climate change streamed from around the world. To many, the facts presented are all too obvious and understood, but if you need a refresher on the thoughts and science behind the outrages that our earth has poured upon us lately, the streams gives plenty to fill your chest of arguments for your next debate with a climate change-denier. Go watch at climaterealityproject.org but remember, live streams are live…

I was told by Chris that this tomato planter used to be on Alisa and Marco’s rooftop. Before they went on holiday, the planter was moved to KIOSK’s window.
The tomatoes have a lovely view of the hustle and bustle on Spring Street and Broadway. One of the tomatoes looked like it wanted a change of scenery so Chris and I had this beautiful tomato for lunch.
A perfect companion to our fig and parma ham salad : )

Hi all,
I’m Michael, a designer and beekeeper from Hong Kong. I’m in New York for a couple of months and I’m happy to let you know that I’ll be working at KIOSK on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
On other days, I’m working as a farmer on Brooklyn Grange, running with the Bridge Runners and visiting some nice shops and cafes : )
I’ll be contributing to the blog every now and then and working on a rooftop garden design for KIOSK – stay tuned!!!

Michael really likes rooftops : )

Making granola is the perfect rainy day activity, so of course when Hurricane Irene came to town, I was excited to make a new batch. Here is the super easy recipe I use, taken from a great cookbook called ‘The Splendid Grain’ by Rebecca Wood . Enjoy!!!

GRANOLA
Preheat oven to 320 F
Combine in a bowl:
1 1/2 cups broken up nutmeats(i used half walnut, half pecan)
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
mix in another bowl:
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup maple syrup(or 1/4 cup more honey, for clumpier granola)
1/4 cup unrefined sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pour this mixture over grain mixture, stirring to combine.
Spread out on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring around every 5-7 minutes until oats are crisp and brown but not burned. Remove from oven and put in a wooden bowl, or another baking sheet to stop the cooking.
Stir in :
1 cup chopped dried fruit of your choice (i used currants – delicious!)
Let cool thouroughly, store in airtight container in a cool dry spot.

That’s one hell of a wood pile you’ve got there buddy. A Scandinavian wood pile indeed. It’s cold here and you need to play with your wood.
And how about this configuration from Germany we came across in 2007? I like it… Imagine a sauna with these walls?

Today was national Spumoni day. In homage to our new found favorite dessert we paid another visit to Spumoni Gardens. Sadly we weren’t greeted with the red, white and green celebration we had anticipated – they didn’t even know about the holiday – but the Spumoni was as tasty and beautiful as ever in all its green glory. Raising Spumoni awareness one step at a time. See more on it and beautiful illustrations HERE!

This weekend at a Long Island yard sale we came across this mind-bending self portrait. Apparently from the 1970’s, and apparently by a Westhampton artist who got “hooked on some problems” and is now a taxi driver. This all from the man i bought it from, who was also selling several trumpets and some deer’s antlers… I love the canvas within a canvas within a canvas motif, interrupted only by the artist himself! Nathaniel Hawk, are you out there?
