An Idea

July 16, 2009 by mimecine

A little while ago, a friend suggested that the next place KIOSK should go should be an imaginary place. I like this idea a lot! It would be very telling of the ways in which humans construct their world based on the objects which surround them. Did we create the objects or did they create us? Anyways, the idea is rather rough, but here are some masks that look neat. What function would an archeologist assign having uncovered these ? It’s fun to speculate what others might speculate about us- based on our objects!

Look familiar? That’s right- KIOSK making a sweet backdrop for her paparazzi inspired photo shoot!
And what’s more, she’s a designer as well. Check out her jewish rosaries ,they’re pretty,  even if you’re not jewish!

object: hummingbird feeder

by mimecine

Combing through pages and pages of “support USA made products” on the internet in preparation for the next American installment here at KIOSK is at once exhilarating – seeing how many people think and care about this sort of thing – and sad as many of the links lead to “this site no longer exists” or “site not found” on the screen. American companies are obviously suffering, many choosing to close before its too late. On a brighter note, I did find this!

hum1

I have always found hummingbirds to be fascinating creatures (their wings flutter at a rate of 50 strokes per second!) This beautiful feeder can help draw them to your garden. The feeder is made in Massachusetts… go America!

Object: choc-u-lator

June 25, 2009 by mimecine

Found this fantastic chocloate calculator on my good friend Betty Roytburd’s blog where it was wonderfully complemented by other objects which made me equally nostalgic. Remember the jewel calculators they used to have as well? makes me miss math… a little.

a show at the city reliquary

by mimecine

“This exhibition seeks to commemorate the many places that have come and gone, all of which have contributed to a colorful New York City upbringing. This multimedia installation will include works on paper, film, literature and assorted ephemera, providing a unique perspective which will complement the already vast collection currently housed in the Reliquary. By recognizing places which have played a formative role, through image and memory, Indigenous – A Group Show hopes to inspire visitors to remember those things which have made their New York experience worthwhile. Visitors are invited to record their stories and add to a growing archive of memories.”

airplane kazoo

This airplane kazoo was made by the same people down in Florida who made the Trumpet Kazoo. Isn’t it beautiful? Too bad we couldn’t have them all!
