My father sent this to me today. I can’t decide, is this dog simply a furniture hater or is he a connoisseur of good design…one can argue that sofa is not the epitome of good taste, perhaps he only wanted a Moroso Principessa by Doshi Levien so he trashed the crap out of the JC Penny! I hate to think of the chemicals that little mutt has eaten in his day and what a tough look he has on his face, it kind of says, screw you, get off my matching armchair and feed me damn it! This is my sofa! As a friend said, PETS!

Combing through pages and pages of “support USA made products” on the internet in preparation for the next American installment here at KIOSK is at once exhilarating – seeing how many people think and care about this sort of thing – and sad as many of the links lead to “this site no longer exists” or “site not found” on the screen. American companies are obviously suffering, many choosing to close before its too late. On a brighter note, I did find this!

I have always found hummingbirds to be fascinating creatures (their wings flutter at a rate of 50 strokes per second!) This beautiful feeder can help draw them to your garden. The feeder is made in Massachusetts… go America!

some more things from Stockholm I am remembering:

A lovely, little, old flower shop where the man is as uplifting as the flowers. Open on Sundays too from 10 — 15.00! Good to know if you are going to visit family. We got one amazing peach gladiolus there and people were mesmerized by it when I was walking home.

HH Cardulain Blommor
Sveavagen 102
tel: 6737348
–odenplan–

A magical cafe done in 1954 by a husband and wife team that has not changed since. Everything is baked on site and the interior is truly inspirational. I go there for a sweet pick me up and a strong Swedish coffee. Everything is still done by the team.

Valand Café & Konditori
Surbrunnsgatan 48

A shop filled with vintage things, from lamps to my favorite: old printed matter. A real candy store of goodies. Even better, located just up the street from Valand!

“I love the tools made for mechanics. I stop by the windows of hardware stores. If I could only find an excuse to buy many more of them than I have already bought on the mere pretence that I might have some use for them! The are so beautiful, so simple and plain and strait to their meaning. There is no “Art” about them, they have not been made beautiful, they are beautiful.”

I mean, since when did design loose it’s definition, should it not function in some manner and be hands on? Since when is design another pretty object to look at? It makes sense, since the prices of available design have gone up and up and is less and less obtainable by the ordinary people (like me). Where else can design go in terms of cost, money making and sales but up and then it becomes untouchable…hence the application of design as art. I think it is poop too. We try to keep Kiosk afloat in this mass of crap out there.
